Passenger services have restarted at Edinburgh Airport after a substantial air traffic control outage halted all operations.

Every arrival and departure were suspended because of an technical fault that occurred at about 08:30.

A number of travelers found themselves stranded in aircraft on the tarmac during the disruption.

Services Recommence with Ongoing Delays

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

However, ongoing issues are expected to affect schedules. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with a host of additional flights subject to postponements.

A spokesperson had earlier anticipated that a significant number of movements could be affected.

"Flyers are asked to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their individual travel plans," was the consistent advice.

Cause of the Chaos

The airport attributed the widespread suspension to an technical fault with its air traffic control provider.

Passengers continue to be advised to verify the schedule of their flight before heading to the hub as knock-on effects are worked through.
