Her Royal Highness's Annual Christmas Service of Carols Pays Tribute to Unsung Heroes

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her annual Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a blend of carols, music and readings from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

A Theme of Love and Generosity

The theme of the service, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose child passed away from a tumour, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any expectation or recognition, make an extraordinary difference to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the festive gathering.

A Gradual Return

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to public life following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Music and Opportunity

Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists aided by the Future Talent charity, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who plays the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the organisation, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at the concert.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Family Affair

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include nine-year-old Saphia Turner, recipient of a youth community award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to raise money for community pantries.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
