New York Jets Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during their recent conversation.

“What reassures me, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His wife and his kid, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”

It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he has been listed as critical but stable.

“Still unsure,” Glenn remarked. “However, I can share, from our conversation, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities shared security footage earlier this week of a man sought in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident is currently under review and authorities said it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt as confirmed by officials.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday about halfway between the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, in his late twenties, was transported to a local hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “a great deal” since the news broke. He further stated that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a child.

“The first thing I thought about, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “My mind went to his family, worrying about his newborn and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but I am pleased that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd was inactive this season, his first with the Jets, after being placed on injured reserve on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

He signed with New York as a new signing in spring and was projected as a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a practice session on early August and had to be helped off.

Boyd has remained around the team throughout the season while working his way back.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn said. “I mean, he attends every game. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He joined Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad later that season. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
