Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the initial names under consideration to succeed the former manager as head coach of Wolves.

Pereira was sacked on the weekend following the team's 10-match winless beginning to the Premier League campaign.

Furthermore both candidates - both of who have previous links to the team - are part of the options to be considered by the Wolves leadership.

The manager is currently at another club, which would pose a possible obstacle to his appointment at Molineux.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton Town head coach - who made more than 100 of appearances for the club during his time as a player - is said to be a leading candidate for the vacancy.

The mid-career manager is said to have support from the club board as they begin the search of appointing a new head coach.

O'Neil is also appearing as a unexpected contender, although he would be a surprising choice considering he was sacked by the club in the previous winter.

The ex- West Ham United midfielder is currently unemployed which means Wolves would not need to provide any compensation.
