Six Individuals Detained After €12M Armed Raid on Gold Refining Lab in France

Six armed perpetrators carrying high-powered firearms employed explosives to force entry into a gold refining laboratory located in Lyon, resulting in minor injuries to five workers during what appears to be the most recent prominent broad daylight robbery to affect the nation.

The audacious robbery occurred on Thursday late morning, with police forces quickly arresting the suspected perpetrators and securing the stolen items estimated to be worth €12M (10.5 million pounds), according to officials.

Five employees of the gold refining company received light wounds as a result of the detonation, and three of them were transported to hospital for assessment, according to regional authorities. Twenty-eight employees were at the location when the robbers attacked.

Those arrested, thought to be career criminals, were taken into custody soon afterwards in the adjacent municipality of the town of Vénissieux, authorities revealed.

A female accomplice who took part in the heist was also apprehended, officers confirmed.

“Six individuals who employed explosive devices in an assault targeting a gold refining facility in Lyon, France were caught in the act,” the French interior minister declared on social media, praising officers for their “decisiveness, speed and control”.

High-caliber firearms, handguns and detonation devices were likewise seized.

The heist took place as French police on that Thursday detained five further people, including a primary suspect, in connection with this month's brazen theft at the Louvre.

Dozens of investigators have been pursuing four perpetrators who used a vehicle equipped with a moving lift and cutting equipment to access a gallery on the first floor at the renowned museum on the nineteenth of October, making off with jewelry valued at approximately €88M.

In another notable incident, burglars recently forced their way into the Parisian museum of natural history, making off with gold samples estimated at exceeding $1M. A woman from China, aged 24 was arrested earlier this month in Barcelona, Spain in regarding the theft, officials confirmed.

The string of thefts has raised concerns in the nation regarding inadequate security measures at cultural venues and other facilities holding high-value objects.
